She took interest in acting after her older brother, who appeared in TV commercials. Mara played her first big role of Natalie Hillard in “Mrs. Doubtfire” (1993) alongside Robin Williams, when she was only 6 years old. She starred in “Miracle on 34th Street” (1994) and played the title role in “Matilda” (1996).

Wilson retired from acting at age of 13 and focused on writing career. Since then she has earned a degree in prestigious school of arts, published memoir and wrote a play. Currently she provides articles for many recognizable sites and from time to time she appears on TV, mostly as a voice.
